In 2009, as part of its strategic plan, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta made a commitment to deepen our approach to community engagement and facilitate the achievement of our community goals. One of our core strategies to advance change is a place-based effort called Opportunity Zones.

span style="line-height: 1.6;"After an intense, year-long application process in which community organizations worked together and partnered with United Way, United Way volunteers have invited four metro communities to receive grants and become Opportunity Zones:

• Norcross in Gwinnett County
• Six Flags Drive in Cobb County
• Scottsdale/Clarkston in DeKalb County
• College Park in Fulton County

Each community has strong leaders and pulled together a Council on Opportunity Zones to lead the effort, and identify needs and assets of the community.
