Brooks worked for 31 years as a teacher, principal, curriculum director and assistant superintendent in Gwinnett. After retiring from the school system, he has devoted his time to serving as a State Representative and to his business as a motivational speaker. Brooks currently serves on the following as the

Brooks also donates numerous hours as an auctioneer to help raise funds for various schools and charities throughout the area. He has also assisted the Gwinnett Hospital Foundation in raising thousands of dollars for special hospital projects.
Brooks was born in Atlanta and has lived in Gwinnett with his wife Mary Claire for over 51 years. He was educated in the Atlanta Public Schools, graduating from Bass High School. Brooks received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, his Masters Degree from The University of Georgia, Athens, his Specialist Degree from The University of Georgia, Athens and his Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia. The Colemans’ have one daughter, Amy Mock, who teaches at Mason Elementary School. Amy and her husband Stephen have two children Patrick and Theresa who are students at Mason Elementary School, Gwinnett County.
