Gwinnett's Biggest Tourist Draw!

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

A Mandir is a Hindu place of worship – a haven for spirituality and a place of paramount peace. It's also a center vibrant with social, cultural, and spiritual activities. Join us for breakfast and find out why more people visit this temple than any other site in Gwinnett County as Mitesh Patel, spokesperson for the mandir, provides us with:
  • An overview of the Indian-American Community locally and nationally,
  • Contributions of the Indian-American Community, and
  • The local impact and what it means to local businesses.
Mitesh Patel is the current Director or Outreach for the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (BAPS Hindu Temple) in Lilburn, GA.  He has been serving in that capacity for over 10 years as a volunteer with a team of over 50 volunteers.  Mitesh was born in India and was raised in Birmingham, AL and moved to Atlanta after completing his MBA as Georgia Southern.  Mitesh is a serial entrepreneur in the service industry and has recently launched a startup in Atlanta and Houston with Uber-like delivery for small businesses.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir was inaugurated in August of 2007 after only 17 months of construction time utilizing 1.3 million volunteer hours.  The Mandir is comprised of 3 types of stone (Turkish Limestone, Italian marble, and Indian pink sandstone).  More than 34,000 individual pieces were carved by hand in India, shipped to the USA and assembled in Lilburn like a giant 3-D puzzle.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), a worldwide socio-spiritual organization in Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, is dedicated to community service, peace and harmony. Motivated by Hindu principles, BAPS strives to care for the world by caring for societies, families and individuals. Through a number of social and spiritual activities, BAPS endeavors to produce better citizens of tomorrow who have a high esteem for their roots - their rich Hindu culture. Its 3,300 international centers support these activities of character-building. Under the guidance and leadership of His Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, BAPS aspires to build a community that is morally, ethically and spiritually pure.
