Join us for our Coffee Connection Spotlight featuring Melvin Everson, distinguished former State Representative and current Vice President of Economic Development at Gwinnett Technical College. Melvin will share his inspiring journey from Georgia's rural areas to the state legislature and beyond.  Hear how Gwinnett Tech is driving growth in our local economy by equipping young people with crucial job skills to enter the workforce.

Melvin Everson is Vice President for Economic Development at Gwinnett Technical College, bringing a rich background in public service, leadership, and community involvement. Born in Abbeville, Georgia, and a Wilcox County High School graduate, Melvin earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Albany State University and further honed his skills at the John E. Reid School of Interrogation & Investigation in Chicago, Illinois.
With a 14-year tenure at JCPenney encompassing roles from investigator to customer service management, Melvin has also distinguished himself through a 23-year career in the U.S. Army, both active and reserve, earning numerous awards and medals. His terms further demonstrate his commitment to public service as a Snellville City Councilman, Vice Mayor, and as a Georgia State Representative for House District 106.
The Governor twice appointed Melvin to lead crucial state agencies—the Office of Workforce Development and the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity—playing pivotal roles in workforce training and civil rights enforcement. His leadership and service have been recognized with multiple awards, including the 2010 Gwinnett Chamber Public Service Award and the 2018 Family Black History Pioneer Award.
An ordained minister and active member of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia, Melvin has been married for 39 years and is a father and a grandfather, underscoring his deep roots and dedication to family and community.
