Dr. Stan Preczewski President of Georgia Gwinnett College

Dr. Stanley C. “Stas” Preczewski was named president of Georgia Gwinnett College in May 2014. A retired U.S. Army colonel, Preczewski began his civilian career as the inaugural vice president for Academic and Student Affairs at GGC in 2006, where he oversaw the initial regional accreditation process. During his tenure as vice president, Preczewski was charged with growing the student population from zero to more than 9,700 in six years; opening the College’s six academic schools; moving GGC from a commuter to residential institution and hiring more than 700 faculty and staff members. He also initiated the international affairs program, intercollegiate athletics and ROTC.

In 2003-04, he earned an American Council on Education Fellowship and served at Wake Forest University in the office of the president. He later returned to Wake Forest to serve as a private consultant for enrollment activities. In 2011-12, Preczewski successfully served as interim president of Georgia College and State University. While there, he completed their first capital campaign.

Earning his bachelor of science degree in engineering from Cornell University and his commission in the United States Army in 1980, Preczewski also holds an M.S. in engineering from the University of Massachusetts, an M.A. in national security strategy and planning from the United States Naval War College and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

While a tenured member of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at the United States Military Academy (West Point, N.Y.), he served as the vice dean for resources and taught strategic planning as a Fellow at the Naval War College (Newport, R.I.). His military schooling includes the courses Field Artillery Cannon and Infantry Advanced, and attendance to both the Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College. He successfully commanded two artillery units with the 2nd and 1st Infantry Divisions. Preczewski was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal and both Airborne and Air Assault Wings.

He is married to Jean Preczewski (nee: Markevich), a career legal assistant for a private law firm in Buford. They have three children, all of whom have served or are serving in the United States Army: Kristen Gilbert, who holds an M.B.A.; Capt. Michael Preczewski, who recently completed command of an Army medical unit in Tokyo, Japan; and Capt. David Preczewski, an Army MEDEVAC helicopter pilot. He and his wife have two grandchildren, Evan and Claire.
