Event Description:
You'll hear their perspectives on important bills that were passed and decisions made during the session. You'll have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the inner workings of the legislative process in Georgia.
Norcross resident and former WAGA political reporter Dale Russell will moderate the event.
This event is a great opportunity to learn about the legislative process in Georgia and hear from those who represent our area. We welcome anyone interested in the legislative process, community leaders, and business owners who want to stay informed and be part of the conversation.
Representative Scott Hilton
Scott Hilton is a common-sense conservative who loves God, his family, and Georgia. He serves as Senior Vice President for Commercial Banking at SouthState Bank. In this role, he works closely with small business owners to provide valuable financial advice and capital to grow their businesses.
Previously, Scott served as Executive Director of the Georgians First Commission under the Office of Governor Kemp. The Georgians First Commission led the Governor’s effort to reduce red tape and streamline government for the benefit of small business. Before this role, Scott spent a career in commercial banking at a regional financial institution and previously served in the Georgia General Assembly from 2016 – 2018.
Scott graduated from Georgetown University with majors in finance and international business. Scott also graduated from Emory University’s accelerated MBA program with a concentration in capital markets.
Scott is active in his community, having served as President of the Fowler Family YMCA Board and past president of the Peachtree Corners Civic Association. He is a graduate of Leadership Georgia, the Conservative Policy Leadership Institute, and LEAD Atlanta.
Scott and his wife, Meredith, live in Peachtree Corners with their three children. Meredith owns a law practice specializing in estate planning and special needs law. Their family enjoys hiking, traveling and pickleball.
Representative Ruwa Romman
Ruwa is passionate about politics, civic engagement, interfaith dialogue and community service. As an organizer, policy analyst, and public speaker, she works to empower communities and everyday people to become more civically engaged!
Last year she leveraged her platform to inform thousands of Georgians how to get involved in the 2020 elections, and worked as a field organizer for Asian American Advocacy Fund. Ruwa also helped establish the Georgia Volunteer Hub to train the influx of Georgia and national volunteers while connecting them to local Georgia organizations. Ruwa has volunteered in every election cycle since 2014 to help flip Georgia blue. In the past, she also worked as a Field Organizer for the Georgia Muslim Voter Project, as well as served as Communications Director for CAIR Georgia.
Ruwa was born in Jordan and is the granddaughter of Palestinian refugees. Her family moved to Georgia when she was 7 years old. Ruwa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Oglethorpe University in 2015 and a Masters in Public Policy from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University in 2019. Ruwa currently works as a senior consultant for a professional services management company assisting government agencies and other stakeholders by advising, implementing, and developing improved strategies to deal with major public policy issues at the local, state, and federal level.
Through her diverse set of experiences, Ruwa will be ready on day one to tackle the tough challenges facing our state and to provide the leadership that District 97 deserves.
Dale Russell, Moderator
Dale Russell is a retired senior investigative reporter for FOX 5 Atlanta (WAGA-TV) now residing in Norcross. Dale covered politics, crime, justice, and the environment at WAGA-TV starting in 1985, and also reported for RTNDF, WSB-TV, and WGST NewsRadio 92. He was honored with a Peabody award and covered Atlanta's evolution for 40 years, including the Atlanta child murders.
